The cost of a broadband Internet connection can be considered in absolute dollar terms or as a percentage of a consumer’s monthly income. The cost of broadband Internet service varies significantly by country and by region. In general, broadband costs are lowest in urban areas and in locations where there is price competition between service providers. The cost of delivering broadband services is falling rapidly as network infrastructures are put in place, the subscriber base grows and technology continues to improve. The following diagram from the ITU (a United Nations organization) illustrates price differences between countries as of July, 2003.
